Marty Whelan, alongside the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, took center stage at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre on Wednesday night for an evening of music and entertainment with “Marty In The Evening.”
To the audience’s surprise, Marty channeled his inner Phil Collins by taking up the drumsticks and, with the orchestra backing him, performed one of music’s most iconic drum solos.
Marty played the classic tune of the 1981 hit “In The Air Tonight” while dressed in casual blue jeans and a t-shirt that read “Marty Whelan” in an Iron Maiden style of lettering.
Fans took to social media after the show, praising the performance with comments like, “More reasons to love Marty! That was brilliant!” and “Some man for one man Marty!”
The sold-out show, which had been sold out since June 6, began at 8 pm and featured a variety of entertainment, including classical and popular music, film scores, musicals, jazz, and more.
Throughout the evening, Marty was joined by musicians Dana Masters, Ava Dodd, and Timothy Howar.
