The closing ceremony of the International Flute Competition MOYSE 2024 took place on July 2 at the ‘UniArt’ Gallery of the New Bulgarian University (NBU), under the distinguished presence of Ambassador Giuseppina Zarra of Italy in Sofia. Organized by the Embassy of Italy in Bulgaria, the Italian Cultural Institute in Sofia, and the New Bulgarian University (NBU), with support from Confindustria Bulgaria, the event celebrated the winners of this prestigious competition.
Founded by Luisa Sello, Professor of Flute at NBU, the competition honors the influential figures of flute-making, Marcel and Louis Moyse. The evening commenced with remarks from Ambassador Zarra and Prof. Sello, followed by the presentation of 21 prizes across categories: A (up to 13 years), A1 (up to 17 years), B (up to 23 years), and C (up to 33 years). The jury, consisting of esteemed musicians and educators including Janos Balint, Tadeu Coelho, Guoliang Han, Luisa Sello, and Matthias Ziegler, selected the winners from over 90 musicians representing 29 countries worldwide.
Among the distinguished guests was Prof. Milena Shushulova, Head of the Department of Music, who attended the award ceremony and winners’ concert. Representatives from sponsors including Kuminiano Fruit, Christian of Roma, GTT, Christian Bach for Miyazawa Flutes Europe, Emil Gatev for the House of Music ‘Gatev & Co’, Serena Klemm for the Conrad Klemm Association, and Christine Moulton for the Moyse Society USA were also present.
The MOYSE 2024 Flute Competition underscored its commitment to promoting excellence in flute performance and fostering international cultural exchange.
