The artistic community in Saraikela is mourning the loss of Sunil Dubey, a distinguished Chhau flutist and versatile artist, who passed away at his home on Tuesday morning at the age of 64.

Dubey, the younger brother of Padma Shri Pandit Gopal Prasad Dubey, was celebrated for his significant contributions to Chhau art. His expertise in both flute and percussion instruments earned him national and international acclaim.

In addition to his Chhau accomplishments, Dubey was a student of the renowned Ghazal singer Anup Jalota, showcasing his wide-ranging musical talents.

Manoj Kumar Chaudhary, patron of the Saraikela Chhau Artist Association, expressed profound sorrow, describing Dubey’s death as a great loss to the local art community. Dubey was honored with an A-grade award from All India Radio and received a Senior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture. His achievements were a testament to his influence and dedication to the art form.
