Dolly Parton’s sister, Rachel Parton George, reflects on their shared culinary heritage, saying, “Dolly cooks quite a bit like our mother. It makes me think of Mama.”
Fans can now experience a taste of Parton’s family recipes with the release of their new cookbook, Good Lookin’ Cookin’, which debuted on Tuesday. As part of a partnership with Home Chef, customers will also have the option to order dishes featured in the book for home delivery.
In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, the sisters discussed the creative process of collaborating on the book. “We spend time together, but getting to spend this much time, this kind of time being creative like that and being holed up together in the kitchen, you get to know yourselves as grownups, and it’s just very special,” Parton shared.
Parton expressed admiration for her sister’s dedication, saying that watching Parton George has taught her a lot. The project has also been a nostalgic journey for both, allowing them to reminisce about their mother and other family members. “We often talk about Mama and then we’ll start talking about our aunts, our grandmothers, our dad, some of our brothers,” Parton George explained. “It has just been a great opportunity to share memories and recipes.”
Parton also provided an update on the potential 9 to 5 remake produced by Jennifer Aniston. “We are in discussion with that with Jennifer Aniston and a couple of people,” Parton revealed. She expressed hope for a new version featuring younger talent, mentioning, “I still think it’d be a wonderful idea to do it,” especially since workplace dynamics and technology have changed significantly since the original film’s release in 1980.
Aniston is producing the film with her partner Kristin Hahn under Echo Films, while Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody, known for Juno and Jennifer’s Body, is set to write the script. Parton noted, “I don’t know what will come of it, but it would be great.”
The iconic country singer also addressed Beyoncé’s recent album, Cowboy Carter, which includes a rendition of Parton’s classic song “Jolene.” Despite the album’s success, Beyoncé faced snubbing at the CMA Awards, a point Parton was unaware of initially. She called Cowboy Carter “a great album” and expressed her honor that Beyoncé chose to cover “Jolene.” “As a songwriter, you always love to hear how other people interpret your music, so I was real proud,” she added.
