Leading the nominations for the 2024 ARIA Awards is Royel Otis with eight nods, followed closely by Dom Dolla with six. Angie McMahon and Kylie Minogue each have five nominations, while 3%, Amy Shark, RÜFÜS DU SOL, The Kid LAROI, Tones and I, and Troye Sivan are all vying for four awards.
Other nominees include Confidence Man, FISHER, Mildlife, Miss Kaninna, SPEED, and Troy Cassar-Daley, each nominated for three awards.
This year’s awards highlight the achievements of Royel Otis, the Sydney indie duo comprised of Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic, who hail from Ourness, the same creative hub as Genesis Owusu. Their standout tracks like “Oysters in My Pocket,” “Sofa King,” and “Kool Aid” have garnered over 9 million Spotify followers, and they were recognized by Rolling Stone AU/NZ as emerging artists in the ‘Future of Music’ series.
Royel Otis was also featured in Spotify’s RADAR program in 2023, accumulating over 318 million plays on the platform by September 2024 and landing spots on more than 8 million playlists worldwide. Their debut album, Pratts & Pain, peaked at #2 on the ARIA Chart and is nominated for Album of the Year, Best Group, Best Independent Release, Best Rock Album, and Best Australian Live Act.
For Dom Dolla, the success continues with nominations in categories including Best Solo Artist, Best Dance/Electronic Release, Best Australian Live Act presented by Destination NSW, and Song of the Year.
The ARIA Awards ceremony will take place on November 20 at Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd expressed excitement about the diverse lineup of nominees, stating, “It is a list that covers global megastars, touring acts on the brink of world domination, and a genuinely exciting group of up-and-coming stars with plenty of buzz.” In total, 29 categories will be presented, including the induction of Missy Higgins into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
