PRS Overhauls Affordable SE Range with New Designs, Left-Handed Models, and Innovative Features

by Madonna

PRS has launched its 2025 SE electric guitar range, showcasing a comprehensive update that includes entirely new designs and the long-awaited left-handed models, notably the John Mayer SE Silver Sky.

This significant upgrade encompasses nearly all Indonesian-made models, now featuring fresh hardware and aesthetic enhancements. The standout news is the introduction of left-handed versions of the John Mayer SE Silver Sky and SE Silver Sky Maple, addressing the demand from southpaw players since the original release. Both rosewood and maple fretboard variants are available, with new finish options including Piano Black, Stone Blue, and Moon White.

This move marks a successful end to the lengthy campaign for lefty SE Silver Sky guitars, sure to delight many left-handed musicians. Additionally, PRS has introduced lefty versions of the Zach Mayer model, another popular addition to the SE lineup.

“We invested years in creating guitars that meet the precise specifications of our Signature Artists,” said Bev Fowler, PRS Guitars Director of Artist & Community Relations. “For them to lend their names to a model means it has to fulfill all their needs, as well as those of players from beginner to pro. We are thrilled to finally offer these two artist models for left-handed players.”

Another highlight in the SE Class of 2025 is the SE Custom 24 Semi-Hollow Piezo, an innovative instrument designed for those seeking both acoustic and electric tones. While it resembles a standard Custom 24, the addition of a piezo pickup aims to capture authentic acoustic sounds. This marks the first time a semi-hollow model in the SE range includes this feature, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to innovation and versatility.

The lineup also includes the SE Custom 24-08, a new quilt maple-topped model in various finishes, and the PRS SE T60E, the latest acoustic guitar in the Tonare Grand body shape series. This model features a solid spruce top, ziricote back and sides, and hybrid X/Classical bracing, complete with PRS-voiced Fishman Presys VT electronics for a “full, vintage tone.”

Throughout the SE range, PRS has implemented various upgrades, aligning more closely with its premium Maryland-made models. Changes include new lampshade knobs replacing the existing speed knobs and a revamped five-way flat-tip switch design.

“We are excited to present our latest updates to the guitar community,” said PRS COO Jack Higginbotham. “It feels almost like sharing a song we wrote rather than just a guitar we designed. It’s a personal endeavor, and our team takes pride in unveiling these new instruments and enhancements. Paul often says, ‘this is our time,’ and I feel that spirit across all our instruments, from our Maryland-made guitars to the SE Series.”
