Last week, Ronnie Mears reached out to provide an update on his son, Reverend Zach Mears from Comanche, who is gaining attention while on tour in Europe with James Bruner, as well as Barnes Courtney and The Struts.
This marks Zach’s second European tour with Bruner.
Mears first made a name for himself locally with Crosswind from Faxon at the age of 14 before moving on to play with the band Wayward Blue.
A move to Nashville, Tennessee, opened new doors for the young guitarist. The Reverend Mears shared his thoughts: “I’m Nashville-based now but still extremely proud of my Comanche, Oklahoma roots. A year ago, I embarked on a full-scale North American tour with alternative rock artist James Bruner, playing iconic venues such as Irving Plaza in New York City and The Roxy in Los Angeles.”
As mentioned, this is Mears’ second European tour. He and Bruner began a spring tour through the continent. The current leg of the tour in Europe and the United Kingdom kicked off on September 27 with a show in Glasgow, taking them through major cities across the U.K. They performed last night in Cologne, Germany, and will continue to Paris, France, this Saturday. The tour is set to conclude on October 21 in Milan, Italy.
A review from one of the United Kingdom shows on devilsgatemusic praised Mears’ talents: “The impeccable Reverend Zach Mears on lead guitar is particularly spectacular.”
Mears remains busy, juggling multiple high-profile gigs. He performs with the country rock band of triplets known as Trippp, which took him to the Rock The Country Fest this past summer, where he shared the stage with Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, Hank Williams Jr., Koe Wetzel, and many others.
“We also hit the road opening for Gavin Adcock all across the south,” he noted.
But there’s more on the horizon for the ever-busy Mears. He remains connected to his Oklahoma roots. “When I’m not doing all that, you can find me down on Broadway in Nashville playing bar gigs. I feel a special need to emphasize my red dirt roots while living out in Nashville, and that spirit is strong in my playing.”
Mears plans to participate in new music recordings from Bruner and Trippp that are expected to be released next year, followed by more touring. However, his hometown continues to call to him. “Also, I’m seriously considering running for mayor of Comanche, Oklahoma,” he said.
Additionally, a huge shout-out goes to Southern Heretics for their return to the Railhead Saloon stage last weekend when they opened for DeadCore. After a few years away, they made a strong comeback.
