Skid Row guitarist Dave “Snake” Sabo reflected on his experiences touring with Eddie Van Halen, sharing insights into the legendary guitarist’s personality.
Eddie Van Halen is celebrated as one of the greatest guitarists in history, with numerous anecdotes from fellow musicians and bandmates highlighting his impact. He even received a heartfelt tribute from his brother Alex.
In an interview with Trevor Joe Lennon, Sabo recalled Skid Row’s tour as the supporting act for Van Halen in 1995. When asked about Eddie’s demeanor “up close and personal,” Sabo immediately praised the late guitar icon:
“He treated us so amazingly. They all did. They treated us so great. I would see Eddie every day. I made sure I wanted to see the soundcheck every day because I’m just such a fanboy. I wanted to be around him and his playing as much as I could while we were out on the road.”
Sabo elaborated on Eddie’s warm greetings each night:
“I used to walk on stage right before a soundcheck, and he’d walk over to me. We’d hug each other, and he’d give me a kiss on the lips and ask me how I’m doing. He was just such a sweetheart.”
