Steinberg has launched Cubase 14, bringing a range of exciting new features designed to enhance the creativity and workflow of composers, producers, and mixers. With this release, Steinberg takes inspiration from the likes of Bitwig and Ableton by introducing a set of six Modulators that allow for modulation of parameters across plugins, virtual instruments, and even the DAW itself. These include a conventional LFO, Envelope Follower, Shaper, Macro Knob, ModScripter, and Step Modulator.
Cubase 14 also introduces a brand-new track type: the Drum Track. This includes a powerful new Drum Machine, which combines a drum sampler and percussion synthesizer to help users design their own custom drum kits. The new Pattern Editor offers a versatile step sequencer capable of sequencing not only drum patterns but also any other track types within Cubase.
Additionally, the update brings several new audio effects, including Shimmer, a reverb designed for creating “ethereal ambiences and dreamlike, reverberant spaces,” and StudioDelay, a full-featured delay with modulation, distortion, reverb, pitch-shifting, and vintage-inspired saturation. Another new addition, AutoFilter, offers rhythmic side-chained filtering to add another dimension to your mixes.
Steinberg has also revamped Cubase’s Score Editor, incorporating elements from its music notation software, Dorico, along with enhanced volume curve editing that allows users to adjust gain directly on events in the timeline using the same tools as automation editing.
Cubase 14 is available in three tiers, offering a range of features depending on your needs. The Cubase Pro version is priced at $579.99, while the Artist and Elements editions are available for $329.99 and $99.99, respectively.
