DJ, producer, and vocalist Bella Renee is making waves in the music scene, and she’s rapidly becoming a name to remember. Based in Phoenix, this rising star has been heating up the desert with high-energy performances and tracks that have caught the attention of audiences everywhere. Over the years, Bella has explored multiple genres, but it’s one in particular that’s truly captured her heart: drum and bass.
“Drum and bass has become such an unexpected part of who I am,” Bella Renee shared with us, reflecting on how the genre has completely transformed her musical journey. That transformation began in 2021 when she collaborated with REAPER on “IMY,” a track that has since become a cornerstone of her career, featured at major festivals like EDC Las Vegas, Beyond Wonderland, Countdown, and many more.
Since its release, “IMY” has racked up over 26 million streams, garnered support from industry giants like Excision and Illenium, and even closed out the 2023 kineticFIELD stage at EDC Las Vegas. “I had no idea then what that one drum and bass song would do for me and my life!” Bella exclaimed, reflecting on how a single track had such a profound impact on her career.
But for Bella, the music is only part of the equation. It’s the drum and bass community that has fueled her drive and inspiration. “I’ve met some of the sweetest people in the EDM community, and I’ve connected with so many amazing artists and fans in the drum and bass scene,” she shared. “I’m so thankful for that, and it’s what’s inspired me to start creating my own original Bella Renee drum and bass music.”
Among the artists who have played a significant role in Bella’s journey are her close friends Skellytn and Dr Apollo, who have supported and encouraged her every step of the way. “It’s been beautiful having their support, making music together, and watching our journeys in drum and bass unfold,” Bella said.
Bella also noticed the rising popularity of drum and bass in recent years. “I’ve seen more and more DJs sneaking drum and bass tracks into their sets, especially at main stages like Coachella,” she said. “Artists like Fred again.., Four Tet, and Skrillex have made it mainstream, and it’s only gaining more popularity.”
As drum and bass continues to rise in prominence, Bella Renee is at the forefront of its evolution, blending the genre with her unique style. Tracks like “Hollow” with Skellytn and “COLD CASE” with REAPER showcase her signature sound, while collaborations with artists like Benzi and Velvet Cash on bass house track “My Fix” and dubstep producers Neotek and Jacknife on “BREATHLESS” demonstrate her versatility.
Looking to the future, Bella has big hopes for the growth of drum and bass in the US, particularly for festivals like Rampage to make their way across the pond. “I really hope we see more drum and bass acts on mainstages at festivals in the US,” she said. And after the success of WORSHIP at kineticFIELD at EDC Orlando, it seems like those dreams might be coming true.
Bella also emphasized the importance of women in the genre, crediting artists like Becky Hill, Kenya Grace, Charlotte Plank, Koven, A Little Sound, and Venbee for pushing drum and bass forward. “These artists are powerhouses in the genre,” she said. “[They] create space for women and artists to innovate and shine within the genre.”
As our conversation wrapped up, Bella highlighted some artists she’s currently vibing with and recommends checking out: “Skellytn makes heavy, grimey neuro DnB; Dr. Apollo brings high-energy DnB with unique basslines; and Don Darkoe has an incredibly heavy, energetic jump-up sound that I love,” she said. “Neotek and I have been working on some alt-rock-inspired DnB that I’m really excited about. Charlotte Plank has also been making cool, poppy, energetic tunes that I’ve been loving and getting inspired by!”
Bella Renee’s evolution as an artist is undeniable, and with a growing fan base, she’s definitely one to watch as drum and bass continues to gain momentum on the global stage.
