Contemporary pianist Vicky Chow, a Hong Kong-born Canadian artist, will return to her hometown of Vancouver for a performance of Philip Glass: Piano Etudes on November 23 (Saturday) at the Anvil Theatre in New Westminster (Second City).
Described as “brilliant” by The New York Times and called a “monster pianist” by Time Out New York, Chow has captivated audiences worldwide with her imaginative and compelling approach to contemporary music. She has performed in over 40 countries, including prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, Royal Albert Hall in London, Cologne Opera House, and more.
In 2023, Chow’s recording of Canadian composer Vince Ho’s Supervillain Etudes earned a JUNO Award nomination. In 2022, she released Philip Glass: Piano Etudes Book 1, with Glass himself praising her performance as “vibrant and expressive” with a “unique energy.” Her previous album, Tristan Perich: Surface Image, was named one of the top 10 avant-garde albums of 2013 by Rolling Stone.
Originally from Vancouver and currently based in New York, Chow teaches at the Bang on a Can Summer Institute, Nief-Norf Summer Festival, and has also taught at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. She serves on the Composer Advisory Council and is a faculty member at The Juilliard School. Chow graduated from both The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music and is a Yamaha Artist.
Vicky Chow’s piano recital will take place on November 23 (Saturday) from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM at the Anvil Theatre.
