The National Guitar Museum has announced Alex Lifeson, one of rock music’s most iconic guitarists over the past five decades, as the recipient of its prestigious “Lifetime Achievement” Award for 2024. Lifeson becomes the 15th honoree of this annual recognition.

As a founding member of Rush—a band renowned for its technical mastery and groundbreaking progressive rock compositions—Lifeson has contributed to over 30 albums since 1974. “Alex’s playing has inspired countless guitarists to push the boundaries of what the guitar can do, and I count myself among them,” said HP Newquist, the museum’s executive director. “His style defies categorization—calling him a ‘rock guitarist’ doesn’t do him justice. From memorable riffs and intricate instrumental work to classical influences, heavy chords, and impeccable tone, Alex exemplifies the limitless potential of the guitar.”

Reflecting on the honor, Lifeson shared, “I’m deeply honored to receive this Lifetime Achievement award from the National Guitar Museum. I fell in love with the guitar at age 11 and have cherished this relationship for 60 years. It has been my voice, my companion, and my creative partner on a lifelong journey—one without a single disagreement. I’m grateful for this recognition and for the incredible experiences that come with being a guitarist.”
