Martin has unveiled a significant update to its flagship Standard Series for the first time since 2018, introducing several spec changes based on feedback from passionate Martin enthusiasts.
These updates span across the popular D-18, D-28, and HD-35 models, as well as three new additions to the lineup: the D-17, 000-17, and OM-45. Leading the changes is the introduction of a new Sitka spruce Golden Era top bracing, which is designed to deliver a more vintage, breathy tone and enhanced sustain.
This Golden Era bracing pattern, already featured on Martin’s premium Modern Deluxe series, promises high-end tonal improvements and is now available on more accessible models.
Other updates include the replacement of the previous black plastic bridge pins with bone or ebony pins, as well as a new GE modified low oval neck profile. While maintaining the beloved shape, the neck has been optimized for a more vintage feel with minimal added mass.
Additionally, the new Standard Series models feature thinner fretboards with beveled edges and improved string spacing for better playability, as well as new GE modern belly bridges with smoother corners for added comfort during performances.
“These changes are the result of what Martin enthusiasts have been requesting, offering a combination of vintage-inspired features with modern playability enhancements,” the company states. “Players will experience improved comfort and vintage tones, particularly due to the GE-inspired bracing and aesthetic refinements.”
As for the new models, the D-17 is a dreadnought, the OM-45 is an Orchestra Model, and the 000-17 features a larger triple 0 body shape. The D-17 and 000-17 are constructed with solid mahogany, while the OM-45 has a solid spruce top paired with East Indian rosewood sides.
“These updates deliver a fusion of vintage style and modern improvements, ensuring players benefit from both comfort and superior tonal qualities,” Martin adds.
