Chinese violist Wenhan Jiang has been named co-principal violist of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The orchestra shared the news on social media, stating, “The orchestra’s family is growing as we welcome Wenhan Jiang as our new co-principal viola. We’re thrilled to have him with us!”
Jiang expressed his excitement about joining the orchestra: “I’m thoroughly enjoying my time with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra! This wonderful ensemble inspires everyone to excel. I’m looking forward to many more concerts and tours!”
Jiang studied at the Royal Academy of Music, where he received the prestigious Theodore Holland Viola Prize. In 2021, he won third prize at the Oskar Nedbal Competition and previously served as the viola section leader for the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast. Jiang has also performed with the Soochow University Symphony Orchestra and the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra, as well as at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing.
