Swiss all-female heavy metal band Burning Witches has announced that their founder and rhythm guitarist, Romana Kalkuhl, is expecting a baby this autumn and will be going on maternity leave. The band shared their excitement and joy for Romana’s new journey into motherhood and expressed their support for her decision to take time off.
The band assured fans that Romana will still be performing at their 10th Anniversary Shows in Estrich Winistorf and Met-Bar Lenzburg on April 25th and 26th. “Romana will be back as soon as she can and will always be ready to fight,” they added, reassuring fans that the band will continue to rock while she’s away.
During Romana’s leave, longtime friend and talented guitarist Simone Van Straten will temporarily step in to cover her duties. Simone will join the band for all upcoming shows and tours until Romana returns.
Romana herself commented on the transition, saying, “It’s not easy to leave the girls alone for a while, but we live only once, and it’s time for me to start my own family! I formed Burning Witches, it’s my absolute dream, and I will definitely be back on stage after my maternity leave. The girls will continue to rock! I will still be working behind them, but not on stage. Thanks to Simone for helping out till I am back. See you soon and stay Metal!”
Burning Witches continues to thrive with an unshakable force, having recently released their 2024 maxi-single The Spell Of The Skull and their 2023 album The Dark Tower, which debuted at #7 on the US Current Hard Music Albums chart. Following a successful North American tour supporting KK’s Priest, the band is now preparing for their 2024 western US headlining dates and is set to return to the U.S. this summer for a series of intimate performances along the eastern corridor.
Their upcoming USA Tour 2025 kicks off on August 30 in Pompano Beach, FL, and will include stops in Atlanta, GA, Columbus, OH, Pittsburgh, PA, and more, wrapping up on September 20 in Sanford, FL.
The band expressed their excitement about the tour, saying, “We are super happy to announce our next US run! It’s amazing to have this huge support from our American fans, and we are so excited to be rocking with you again. Keep your eyes peeled for some big surprises to be announced around the tour!”
