London, September 14, 2023 – The world of music mourns the loss of Giles Broadbent, a gifted violinist whose talent graced the stages of London’s West End and enthralled audiences around the globe. Mr. Broadbent, aged 51, passed away recently, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the world of music.
Giles Broadbent’s musical journey began under the guidance of his father, who introduced him to the violin. In their youth, Giles and his younger brothers embarked on busking adventures on the bustling streets of London, honing their skills as young musicians.
Broadbent’s formal training took place at London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Music (RAM), where he honed his craft. Subsequently, he embarked on a successful career that saw him leading orchestras for numerous iconic West End productions, including “Sunset Boulevard,” “Phantom of the Opera,” and “My Fair Lady,” among others.
In 2003, Giles Broadbent, along with his brothers Ralph, Neal, and cousin Graham, founded the musical ensemble known as Stringfever. As the eldest member of the group, Giles was often regarded as the ensemble’s guiding force. His mastery of the five-string Violectra Violin added a unique dimension to their performances.
Stringfever’s repertoire was a captivating fusion of classical music, movie soundtracks, and rock classics. Their music took them to stages worldwide, including nearly 20 U.S. tours, where they enchanted audiences with their virtuosity. Notable performances at prestigious venues such as Mumbai’s Opera House and the Beijing Music Festival underscored their global appeal. The group’s artistry also graced the airwaves, with appearances on BBC Radio 2.
Stringfever was celebrated for their whimsical and comedic performances, featuring electric strings and beatboxing. However, their crowning achievement was their rendition of Ravel’s “Bolero,” where all four members simultaneously played on a single cello, a feat that left audiences in awe.
In recognition of their significant contributions to the music profession, Giles and Ralph were honored with the Associate of the Royal Academy of Music award in 2015.
“The band will be taking a break whilst we make funeral arrangements,” Stringfever shared on Instagram, expressing their grief at Giles Broadbent’s unexpected passing. The Storytelling Academy of Loughborough University also paid tribute to the talented musician, stating, “Giles’s music and his kind and generous heart will stay forever with us!”
Giles Broadbent is survived by his wife, television presenter Diane Louise Jordan, and their daughter and grandchildren. The loss of this musical virtuoso leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and colleagues, and our deepest condolences go out to them during this difficult time.
