Vancouver – Vancouver Opera is gearing up to inaugurate its 2023-2024 season with a magnificent rendition of Mozart’s timeless masterpiece, “The Magic Flute.”
Scheduled to raise its curtains on October 21, this enchanting opera promises to captivate audiences with a stellar cast that includes Audrey Luna, acclaimed for her portrayal of the Queen of the Night, Owen McCausland as Tamino, Kirsten MacKinnon in the role of Pamina, Clarence Frazer as Papageno, Neil Craighead as Sarastro, and Roger Honeywell taking on the character of Monostatos.
Vancouver Opera’s General Director, Tom Wright, expressed his excitement, stating, “We are thrilled to open our 2023-2024 season with this extraordinary and magical opera classic by one of history’s greatest composers, Mozart, which is sure to enchant Vancouver audiences. Vancouver Opera last presented this masterpiece a decade ago, and we are certain audiences will be eager to see this production, cast, and creative team we have assembled. This is an incredible ensemble bringing together company debuts and former company members.”
Owen McCausland, an alumnus of the Canadian Opera Company’s Ensemble Studio, has garnered significant attention throughout his career, and Kirsten MacKinnon, with her captivating performances across North America and Europe, was a finalist in the MET vocal competition in 2017. The production also reunites former company members who have advanced their careers since their last collaboration with VO, and audiences can look forward to the remarkable performance of Audrey Luna in the upcoming season.
Conductor Tania Miller will be making her debut with Vancouver Opera, leading the Vancouver Opera Chorus and Vancouver Opera Orchestra in this new production helmed by Diane Paulus.
“The Magic Flute” will grace the stage four times, with performances running through October 29, 2023. Vancouver Opera’s opening production promises to be a magical and unforgettable experience for opera enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
