Cameron University’s Department of Art, Music, and Theatre Arts is proud to host a remarkable evening featuring guest artist Philip Martinson on the trombone. This captivating recital is scheduled for Thursday, October 26, and promises to be a musical experience like no other.

The program for this special event will showcase the compositions of Brian Sadler, an esteemed Musician First Class and a trombonist/arranger in the U.S. Navy Fleet Bands. Martinson, alongside Lucas Kaspar, an assistant professor of music at Cameron University, will present two remarkable selections. Notably, all the pieces performed during this recital will be accompanied by pre-recorded soundscapes, incorporating a blend of natural and synthetic elements.
Philip Martinson holds the prestigious position of principal trombonist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and is also an associate professor of music at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. His tenure at SWOSU dates back to 2017, where he has been a guiding force in the music department. Moreover, Martinson is the principal trombonist for the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra. His contributions extend beyond the orchestral realm, as he is a prolific soloist and an accomplished chamber musician, leaving an indelible mark on the musical landscape of the United States.
Martinson’s musical journey has taken him to various esteemed platforms, including multiple appearances at the International Trombone Festival and participation in events like the International Music by Women Festival, University of Florida International Brass Festival & Conference, OK Mozart International Music Festival, and the American Trombone Workshop.
Before his tenure with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Philip Martinson held the position of second trombonist with the Ocala Symphony Orchestra for three seasons. His versatility and virtuosity have allowed him to perform as co-principal trombonist with the Taneycomo Festival Orchestra in Branson, Missouri, and to collaborate with professional ensembles across Ohio, Indiana, and Florida.
