Prepare for a celestial experience as the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra gears up to perform Holst’s iconic suite, “The Planets,” featuring acclaimed violinist Augustin Hadelich. Sponsored by Connor, Clark & Lunn Private Capital, the event is part of the Musically Speaking series at the Orpheum on April 12 at 7 pm and the North Shore Classics series at Centennial Theatre on April 13 at 8 pm.
Under the baton of special guest conductor Gemma New, audiences will be taken on a cosmic journey through Holst’s masterpiece. Additionally, the evening will feature Alissa Firsova’s “Die Windsbraut,” a composition inspired by the tempestuous romance between Gustav Mahler’s widow, Alma, and the expressionist painter Oskar Kokoschka.
The performance will also showcase the virtuosity of Augustin Hadelich, who will captivate audiences with his exquisite tone and dynamic interpretation in Britten’s Concerto for Violin. Those eager to glean insights from the maestro can join Hadelich for an exclusive masterclass at Pyatt Hall on April 11 at 5 pm, offered through the VSO School of Music International Master Teacher Program.
