The saying “Uganda is the pearl of Africa” resonates deeply today, as the country’s abundant natural beauty, welcoming people, and thriving business opportunities continue to attract visitors from far and wide. Yet, amidst all these blessings, there’s one aspect of Uganda’s identity that often goes overlooked: its rich cultural heritage.
Music, a vital part of this heritage, takes center stage as three iconic artists join forces to shine a spotlight on Uganda’s musical traditions and the instruments that give them life. Guitarists Myko Ouma and Kenneth Mugabi, along with composer Ssewa Ssewa, known for his innovative Janzi instrument and fusion of traditional Ugandan sounds, are gearing up for a captivating musical showdown on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel.
At the launch of the event, Jonathan Kayongo of Soul Events emphasized the concert’s mission to showcase Uganda’s cultural pride to the world. Myko Ouma echoed this sentiment, describing the upcoming performance as more than just a musical battle—it’s a celebration of Uganda’s cultural legacy.
“This three-man show is not only about musical prowess; it’s about preserving and promoting our cultural heritage,” Ouma explained. “Through the vibrant sounds of our local instruments like the ‘Akogo’ and ‘Dungu,’ we aim to share a piece of Uganda with the world and instill a sense of pride in our heritage.”
