An auction will take place at Llangollen Town Hall on Friday, June 14, just days before Bryan Adams performs at the festival. The event will feature Côr DAW, a distinctive Welsh choir that entertains audiences with medleys of songs by Queen, Abba, Elton John, Michael Jackson, and Jersey Boys, all sung in Welsh.
Côr DAW, which stands for Dysgwyr Ardal Wrecsam (Wrexham-area learners of Welsh), was established by Pam Evans-Hughes in 2011 to compete in the National Eisteddfod in Wrexham. Since its inception, the choir has captivated audiences at venues such as Venue Cymru in Llandudno, Chester Cathedral, the Millennium Centre in Cardiff, and Focus Wales. They have also performed at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod.
The evening aims to raise funds for the Llangollen Eisteddfod’s charity, which supports bringing people from around the world to its annual peace festival. Ian Lebbon, Chairman of the Eisteddfod’s marketing committee and auctioneer for the evening, expressed his excitement: “This is our second ever auction, and we can’t wait to hear the ladies from Côr DAW, who have made a huge name for themselves by singing rock classics in Welsh.
“Star items include a guitar signed by the Manic Street Preachers during their last appearance in Llangollen in 2017, generously donated by our former Chair Dr. Rhys Davies. There will also be tickets to major concerts this year, including performances by Tom Jones and Bryan Adams, among other offerings.
“All proceeds will go to our charity. It promises to be a fantastic night and a great start to our biggest summer yet.”
