AudioThing has launched Wurly, a plugin designed to faithfully replicate the iconic Wurlitzer electric pianos from the 1960s and 1970s. The emulation includes both the legendary 200 and refined 200A models, capturing their distinctive, soulful tone and dynamic touch, as confirmed by a spokesperson.
Key features of Wurly include comprehensive controls for shaping the electric components of the sound, such as pickup emulation, envelope adjustments, and the classic built-in tremolo (often erroneously labeled as ‘Vibrato’). The plugin employs precise modeling of the pickup and reed geometry to ensure authenticity. Additionally, physical modeling techniques are utilized to accurately reproduce the behavior and sonic characteristics of the original instruments.
Wurly also offers detailed control over mechanical aspects like hammer, key, pedal noises, and clank section, combining physical models and sampled sounds to enhance realism. The plugin allows users to blend direct and speaker sounds by incorporating sampled speaker characteristics from each Wurlitzer model.
Available for MAC, PC, and LINUX (VST, VST3, AU, AAX, CLAP, 64-bit only), Wurly is also accessible as AUv3 and Standalone via the App Store, catering to a wide range of digital audio workstations and platforms.
