The Museo del Violino (MdV) in Cremona has appointed Riccardo Angeloni as the new curator of its collection, following Fausto Cacciatori, who has held the role since 2013.
Angeloni graduated from the International School of Violin Making and later attended the University of Pavia’s Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage. He graduated with honors in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage, being the first to complete the degree focused on restoring and conserving musical and scientific instruments. Currently, he works as a contract professor at the University of Pavia.
Angeloni has collaborated with various institutions, including the Arvedi Laboratory of Non-Invasive Diagnostics, the Swabian Museum of Trieste, the National Museum of Musical Instruments of Rome, and the Civic Museum of Modena. He also participated in projects with the University of Edinburgh and the Correr Museum of Venice during his training.
Angeloni’s appointment was decided by an examining commission comprising Chiara Bondioni (director of the culture and tourism sector of the Municipality of Cremona), Fausto Cacciatori (curator of the MdV Foundation), Bruce Carlson (MdV Scientific Committee), Michela Cascasi (official of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism), Gabriele Rossi Rognoni (curator at the Royal College of Music), and Virginia Villa (general director of the MdV).
In a statement, Villa emphasized the curator’s essential role in the museum’s life, involving historical study, development, cultural mediation, and ongoing education. She expressed gratitude to Cacciatori for his service since 2013 and highlighted Angeloni’s skills, enthusiasm, and established relationship with the museum and its community, which will support him in his new role.
