Top piano recitals at the Birley Centre in Eastbourne feature the prestigious Norah Sande Award, drawing exceptional pianists, including finalists from BBC Young Musician of the Year. Held annually, this event has become a highlight in Eastbourne’s cultural calendar, showcasing talented young adult pianists poised for professional careers. Scheduled for July 6th and 7th at Eastbourne College’s Birley Centre, this two-day event promises captivating performances in a purpose-built concert hall.
Last year’s victor, Julian Chan, a Steinway Award recipient from the Royal Academy of Music, continues to garner acclaim for his innovative approach. Having graced renowned venues such as London’s Wigmore Hall and St John’s Smith Square, Julian also impressed alongside the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra and at the Huntingdon Performing Arts Centre during his Norah Sande Award performances.
On Saturday, July 6th, semi-finalists will deliver 20-minute programs starting at 9:30 am, with free entry allowing the audience to come and go between performances. The following day, Sunday, July 7th, at 2:30 pm, three finalists will each present a complete recital program encompassing classical, romantic, and contemporary compositions, all distinct from their semi-final performances. Tea will be served as adjudicators deliberate, with results anticipated around 5 pm. The winner will receive a £2000 prize along with an opportunity for a future recital.
