Richard Scerbo Appointed New Music Director of Columbia Orchestra

Richard Scerbo has been appointed as the new Music Director of the Columbia Orchestra, a regional ensemble based in Ellicott City, MD, starting from July 1, 2024.

Currently serving as the Artistic Director and Conductor of Inscape Chamber Orchestra, Director of the National Orchestral Institute + Festival at the University of Maryland, Co-Artistic Director of Jackson Hole Chamber Music, and a Principal Conductor of the DC Youth Orchestra, Scerbo brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

In addition to his musical engagements, Scerbo is deeply involved in community activities, having participated in panels with the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, judged orchestra assessments for Howard County (MD) Public Schools, and adjudicated chamber music competitions for the Montpelier Arts Center.

He also holds positions on the boards of directors for the American Composers Alliance and Bowdoin International Music Festival.

Excited about his new appointment, Scerbo shared on social media, “I’m thrilled to announce that I will be joining the Columbia Orchestra as their new Music Director!
