The Tánaiste has expressed his desire to speak with the Arts Minister about the possibility of keeping Rory Gallagher’s iconic guitar in Ireland.
The guitar is set to be auctioned later this year with an estimated value of around 1.17 million euros.
Gallagher purchased the electric guitar in 1963 from Crowley’s Music Store in the city and used it throughout his career.
Speaking to RedFM News, Tánaiste Micheál Martin shared his hopes of retaining the guitar in Cork:
“I have very fond memories; he played at the Everyman. I would love if we could keep it. I will speak with Catherine Martin to see what’s possible, but it would be wonderful to have that guitar back on Leeside.”
