John Mayall, the iconic British blues pioneer who founded the Bluesbreakers and played a pivotal role in launching the careers of some of modern music’s most influential guitarists, has died at the age of 90.
Mayall’s family confirmed the news, stating that the blues legend passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, at his home in California, surrounded by his loved ones.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of John Mayall’s peaceful passing at his California home yesterday, surrounded by his devoted family,” the statement reads.
“Health issues that led John to end his remarkable touring career have now brought him peace. John Mayall devoted ninety years to educating, inspiring, and entertaining us.”
The Mayall family expressed their deep gratitude to his fans and the many band members who supported and loved him over the decades. “Keep playing the blues somewhere, John. We love you.”
