Goldie, a pivotal figure in the evolution of drum & bass and jungle music, is set to make a highly anticipated return to XOYO London this August. Known for his groundbreaking Metalheadz nights at Hoxton’s Blue Note, which are considered a landmark in the genre’s history, Goldie will bring his iconic sounds back to the capital’s premier bass music venue. On Saturday, 17th August, Goldie will headline Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions, continuing the legacy of his memorable 2021 XOYO residency.
This event is part of XOYO’s diverse ‘Summer Saturdays’ series, curated by the legendary label founder Goldie. Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions is set to recreate the atmosphere of the original Blue Note nights. Alongside Goldie, drum & bass icon Grooverider will also perform, adding his distinctive sound to Shoreditch’s most celebrated basement venue. The lineup is further enhanced by Diverge, and the vocal prowess of Cleveland Watkiss and Medic MC, who will engage the audience in the unique way only experienced drum & bass MCs can.
The Metalheadz nights at Blue Note are remembered as crucial moments in drum & bass history, alongside events like Rage and Speed. Their importance stems from several factors: the genre was still emerging, the Metalheadz label had attracted top young producers, and the Sunday night timing drew typically reserved beatmakers. Under Goldie’s leadership, these nights were known for their absence of traditional MCs, intense dubplate rivalries, memorable DJ performances, and a deep appreciation for the music. Now, the pioneers return with Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions at XOYO London to rekindle that excitement.
Following the kick-off of XOYO’s ‘Summer Saturdays’ series with LWE’s August event featuring Chicago house legend Jamie 3:26 and Ceri’s exceptional deep house and garage sets, Metalheadz: Blue Note Sessions will bridge the series into its second half. Upcoming events include Joshua James’s Pump on 24th August, featuring deep house and minimal techno, and Charlie Boon’s ‘Departures’ club brand debut on 31st August, showcasing a mix of traditional house and cutting-edge electronic production in collaboration with COGO.
XOYO London remains the destination for top-tier electronic music and unforgettable summer nights.
