It’s been nearly a year since Megadeth welcomed Teemu Myntysaari as their new guitarist, following Kiko Loureiro’s departure. The 37-year-old guitarist quickly integrated into the band, thanks to his impressive musical talent.
In a recent interview with Kyle Total, Megadeth’s frontman, Dave Mustaine, expressed his admiration for Myntysaari. “Oh my God, he has extraordinary talent. And as a person, he is very humble,” Mustaine said.
Mustaine also highlighted how much fun Myntysaari has brought to the band. “He made things very enjoyable because he’s transitioning from being a band member to joining a high-profile band like Megadeth,” Mustaine explained. “So, everything is very new for him at this level. For us, it’s refreshing, as sometimes we forget to appreciate where we are.”
When asked about the impact of Myntysaari’s arrival on Megadeth’s musical style, the 62-year-old vocalist noted that the influence of a new guitarist depends on their willingness to learn and adapt. “Yes, it depends on who the new players are. If they are willing to learn the parts, then the songs will stay the same or even improve.”
Mustaine praised Myntysaari for his ability to replicate the original guitarist’s style while adding his own touch. “Often, when a new player comes in, like Teemu, he plays everything exactly the same as the original player. So, he’s one of the best guitarists to come in and play existing songs,” Mustaine added.
Mustaine also confirmed that Megadeth and Myntysaari have been working on new material. “Yes, we have been dissecting the songs,” he said.
