André 3000’s recent appearance at All Points East surprised fans when the rapper showcased new music in an unexpected way.
Performing on Saturday, August 17, alongside notable artists like Loyle Carner, Nas, and Nubya Garcia, André 3000 centered his set around his latest project, New Blue Sun—an experimental album entirely devoid of rap.
Released in November of last year, New Blue Sun marked André 3000’s first solo album in 17 years. To fans’ surprise, the album was not the rap release they had anticipated but rather an 87-minute ambient flute record.
At All Points East, André 3000’s set exclusively featured material from this new project, leaving fans puzzled and vocal on social media about the absence of any older material from his discography.
In previous discussions, André 3000 has mentioned how age has influenced his musical evolution, stating, “Sometimes it feels inauthentic for me to rap because I don’t have anything to talk about in that way. I’m 48 years old. And not to say that age is a thing that dictates what you rap about, but in a way it does.”
