Deutsche Grammophon (DG) has announced the release of a new recording featuring Julian Lawrence Gargiulo’s Sonata No. 4 for Violin and Piano, titled “From the Window.” This recording, performed by Gargiulo and VC Artist María Dueñas, was completed during the COVID lockdowns.
The sonata is comprised of four imaginative, emotionally rich, and technically demanding movements: I. The Ocean, II. The Sky, III. The Earth, and IV. The People.
María Dueñas’s participation in this recording follows her first-place win at the 7th “Getting to Carnegie” Competition in 2021, where she and three other finalists each performed one movement of Gargiulo’s Sonata No. 4.
The title “From the Window” reflects a period when “connections and a sense of togetherness could only be felt by looking through one’s window.”
