The Rockley Family Foundation is hosting its annual instrument sale this week in collaboration with the University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS). The sale will feature nearly-new pianos and violins available at discounted prices.
“When people come, they’ll find a wide selection of instruments across various price ranges,” said Tobin Rockley, president of the Rockley Family Foundation.
Here’s how the program works: Each year, the foundation donates high-quality, brand-new pianos and violins to UCCS. At the end of the school year, these instruments are sold to raise funds for the university’s music program, ensuring its continuation. “It sustains the program,” Rockley explained.
UCCS benefits by receiving new pianos annually, which helps them manage maintenance costs and allows for more efficient budget use. According to Rockley, “They can allocate their budget more effectively.”
Most of the instruments in the sale are less than a year old, come with a new factory warranty, and are tuned and ready to use. The selection includes everything from beginner instruments to prestigious Steinways.
Founded by Rockley in 2007, the Golden-based nonprofit has since expanded into a national organization. It partners with schools and universities across the country, offering scholarship funds and musical instruments to support music education. Over the years, the foundation has donated approximately $43 million to these efforts.
UCCS and the Rockley Family Foundation began their first joint fundraising sale in 2009.
“The initiative aims to be a positive force for music education across the board,” Rockley stated.
He added that attendees not only get the opportunity to purchase quality instruments at reduced prices but also contribute to a worthy cause, while also providing exposure for UCCS.
