This Sunday, September 15, the Franklin Historical Museum will launch its new music series, “Third Sunday–Music at the Museum.” The highlight of the event will be a performance on a recently rebuilt, 1904 Trowbridge upright piano, originally made in Franklin. Multi-instrumentalist Krishna Swain from Bellingham will perform, and for part of the concert, the piano’s covers will be removed to reveal its intricate inner workings, allowing the audience to see how keystrokes transform into music.
The event will begin with a brief history of the Trowbridge Piano Company, followed by a special performance on the museum’s 19th-century pump organ. The organ, once used in Franklin’s Old South Meeting House, will be played by Randy LaRosa, an organist and member of the museum’s commission.
The museum will open its doors for regular Sunday hours at 1 p.m., with the music and talks starting at 4 p.m. The program is expected to last about an hour. While admission is free, donations are encouraged.
