On Friday, September 27, the Camden Opera House at 29 Elm St. will host a special performance by Vienna-based pianist Daniel Adam Maltz. He will perform on a 1792 Viennese fortepiano, the same type of early piano that Mozart and Beethoven played, starting at 7:30 p.m.
As part of his 70-city North American tour, Maltz aims to bring new life to classical pieces by performing them on this rare instrument. “Hearing these pieces on a Viennese fortepiano makes the music come alive in a fresh, extraordinary way,” said Maltz. During the concert, he will introduce each piece, and after the performance, the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions and see the instrument up close.
Maltz, often described as the “master of the Viennese fortepiano” (The Common Reader) and “the foremost performer in the world of the fortepiano” (Aspen Daily News), is renowned for his focus on Viennese Classicism, particularly the works of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, played on instruments from their era.
“These composers weren’t just historical figures in textbooks,” said Maltz. “They were real people expressing deep emotions through music, emotions that remain relatable today.”
Tickets for the concert are available for $32 in advance and $36 on the day of the show, with a choose-your-own reserved seating option. Maltz’s return to Camden Opera House follows last year’s successful performance.
