Sébastian Jacot, who has served as Principal Flute with the Berlin Philharmonic since November 1, 2022, is set to leave his position. Jacot succeeded Mathieu Dufour in this role.
Hailing from Geneva, Switzerland, Jacot was trained at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Genève under the guidance of Jacques Zoon. His orchestral career began in 2006 when he joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra as assistant principal flute.
Jacot also held principal positions at Japan’s Saito Kinen Festival and with the Ensemble Contrechamps in Geneva before moving to the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra in November 2015.
His accolades include victories in several international competitions, such as the ARD Music Competition. Jacot has performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras including the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, and the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Berlin Philharmonic is now accepting applications for the Principal Flute position, with the deadline set for January 15, 2025. Auditions are scheduled to take place on March 6–7, 2025.
The new Principal Flute will join Emmanuel Pahud in the role.
