Exciting news for young drummers in Bridgwater: Beats on the Streets, a dynamic new project led by Sean O’Hara along with professional drummers Emma Holbrook and Jo Meikle, is inviting participants under 18 to join in.
This initiative aims to build energetic drumming groups in the Bridgwater area, where participants will explore a range of musical styles such as hip hop, samba, rock, and dohl, while crafting their own unique sound. Beyond just making music, the project focuses on community building and skill development.
Caroline Ellis, Taunton town councillor, praised the initiative, stating, “Sound of the Streets has a fantastic track record of inspiring and empowering young people to create incredible street music. Street drumming is an accessible and joyful way to express oneself. This project offers a great opportunity for young people to acquire new skills, enhance their creative abilities, build confidence, and be part of an exciting street music movement.”
Beats on the Streets is organized by the charity Sound of the Streets and funded by Make Music Repeat, a program run by Actiontrack and Taunton Town Council.
The drumming sessions are scheduled to take place at Eastover Community Centre on September 29, October 6, and 19 at 6:30 p.m., and at Victoria Park on October 21, 28, and November 4 at 7:00 p.m.
