The Holland Concert Jazz Orchestra is gearing up for an exciting 2024-25 concert season, featuring both local high school jazz bands and renowned international artists.
The season will commence with a performance by acclaimed jazz saxophonist Markus Howell and four local high school jazz bands. This event will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at the Harbor Lights Middle School Performing Arts Center. Howell, an MSU graduate, currently performs with Michael Bublé and the latest iteration of the Count Basie Orchestra. Each high school band from Holland, Holland Christian, West Ottawa, and Zeeland will have the opportunity to perform a solo piece with Howell.
Throughout the season, HCJO will collaborate with the H2 Dance Company at Hope College for multiple renditions of Duke Ellington’s “Nutcracker Suite.” These performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Nov. 1-2 and Nov. 8-9 at the Knickerbocker Theatre.
The orchestra will also host its annual Student Solo Competition on April 25.
Additional performances planned for the season include a winter show in February, a joint concert with the Holland Symphony Orchestra in June, and appearances at the Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts and All Saints Church in Saugatuck.
