Lainey Wilson is demonstrating that the show must go on, even in unpleasant circumstances.
The Grammy-winning singer shared that a concertgoer spat on her during a performance last year, and she never discovered who it was. “Last year, while we were on our headlining club tour, someone spit on me on stage,” Wilson recounted on the “Taste of Country Nights, On Demand” podcast. “I thought about confronting the person, but I didn’t. I just kept rolling.”
Wilson mentioned this incident when podcast host Evan Paul discussed Hardy’s “Quit” tour, inspired by a note from a fan urging him to quit. Paul asked Wilson if she had ever experienced anything strange at her shows.
“First of all, I was like, ‘Why would you buy a ticket just to spit on someone?’” Wilson said. “But there are some mean people in the world. They could have just been drunk and being silly.”
She vividly recalled seeing the spit as it flew through the air. “It was bizarre. I saw it coming, like I made eye contact with it before it landed on me, and I thought, ‘I’ve got a heart like a truck,’” she joked.
This isn’t Wilson’s first unexpected on-stage incident. In July, she had a wardrobe malfunction that resulted in her pants splitting. She humorously told the audience, “Y’all just about got a real show. A real show!”
Despite her lighthearted approach to these surprises, a country music insider who has toured with Wilson noted that she takes her security seriously. “She had a big security guard with her at all times,” the insider told The Post.
Wilson moved to Nashville from a small Louisiana town at 19 to pursue her singing career. It wasn’t until her appearance on “Yellowstone” that her career truly took off. Nowadays, she expresses a desire to star in a sitcom and do voice acting for cartoons.
During the podcast, she also addressed fan reactions to her recent weight loss, revealing that some were upset her backside was smaller than before. “People are mad that it ain’t as big as it used to be,” Wilson said, explaining that her weight loss resulted from running around on stage during her 90-minute shows.
“It’s strange, but I will tell you this: the fans I’ve met along the way are not the mean people you see on the internet,” she added.
