Border guards from the Lviv detachment intercepted a violin, believed to be crafted by the Italian master Stradivarius, in a car attempting to leave Ukraine, according to a report from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine on Thursday.
“The violin bears the inscription Antonius Stradiuarius Cremomentis Faciebad Anno 1728. It was discovered in the trunk of a Mitsubishi vehicle at the Krakovets checkpoint on the border with Poland. The violin may be an original piece made by the renowned Italian craftsman Antonio Stradivari, known for its exceptional sound quality and global acclaim,” the report stated.
Customs officials confiscated the instrument and have forwarded it for examination to assess its cultural and historical significance, the department confirmed.
