Castlebar is set to host a new music festival over the August bank holiday weekend in 2025. The event will pay tribute to past music celebrations in the town, such as the Blues Festival, Castlebar Song Contest, and The Occasion at the Castle.
The festival will headline three prominent tribute acts along with performances from local talent. With free entry, the event aims to foster community spirit, support local businesses, and offer a platform for music lovers to enjoy quality entertainment.
While the exact location is yet to be confirmed, Hoban Street car park has been proposed as the venue.
Two popular tribute bands, Qween (Queen) and IE/DC (AC/DC tribute), are tentatively scheduled, along with other local acts representing a variety of genres. This lineup promises broad appeal, drawing a diverse crowd.
To capture the essence of the Blues Festival, local artists and bands will perform in pubs on Friday and Saturday nights. Attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite acts, with the winners joining the headliners on Sunday, providing a stage for Castlebar’s homegrown talent. Additionally, an online song contest, reminiscent of the old Castlebar Song Contest, will take place, with the winner performing on the main stage Sunday night.
The festival will also feature local food and drink vendors and artisan craft stalls, further enhancing the festival experience.
