A dazzling display of global piano masters lit up the Shanghai Nine Trees Future Art Center, presenting Mid-Autumn blessings for Chinese and international audiences in 2024.
On the evening of September 19, under the full moon, the sound of music filled Shanghai. During this golden autumn, at the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Shanghai Nine Trees Future Art Center hosted an unprecedented musical extravaganza. Twelve renowned pianists from across the globe participated, either in person or via video. The event reached its climax when Sergey Davidenko, the recent winner of the prestigious Tchaikovsky Piano Competition, performed Tchaikovsky’s “The Hunt” and the third movement of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
The concert also attracted twelve piano masters from eleven countries. These included notable figures such as Hungary’s Liszt Prize winner Peter Nagy, internationally acclaimed Russian pianist Vitaly Petrov, renowned American pianists William Wolfram and Arthur Greene, Hungarian maestro Péter Nagy, French pianist Pierre Réach, Mexican pianists Anatoly Zatin and Vlada Vassilieva, Polish pianist Adam Zukiewicz, and representing the younger generation of artists, Chinese pianists Niu Niu, Ding Yidi, and Singaporean pianist Wayne Wee.
These top-tier musicians, despite the distances between them, delivered extraordinary performances that transcended borders through their art.
Singaporean pianist Wayne Wee represented Singapore in the “Music Knows No Boundaries, Mid-Autumn Reunion” concert. He opened the online segment of the event with his own arrangement, a medley of the National Day songs “Home” and “The Road Ahead.” This medley combined modern national spirit with Liszt’s classical music style and showcased his exceptional piano technique and compositional talent. Through this, he extended Singapore’s Mid-Autumn blessings to both Chinese and global audiences.
September 19 also marked the premiere of the music video (MV) for Wee’s National Day medley arrangement. The production was led by former CCTV director Wan Wei, giving wings to this musical piece and creating a bridge of connection through the power of music.
