Eagles Experience Revives Don Henley’s First Drum Set at Troubadour Club

by Madonna

Don’t label it a pop-up; the Eagles are a rock institution with a 50-year legacy.

“This is more of an experience than a pop-up,” states Cindy Frey, widow of Eagles co-founder Glenn Frey and mother of current band member Deacon Frey, who curated the Third Encore fan attraction at The Venetian. “I said, ‘Let’s make it real, or not do it.’ We’re not just throwing up T-shirts and saying, ‘OK, come in!’ This is as authentic as the band itself.”

One significant feature of this experience is the drum set located within the replica Troubadour Lounge, where Frey and Don Henley first met in 1970 to form the Eagles. The drum face is emblazoned with the name Felicity, which was the name of Henley’s band back in 1964. His mother purchased this drum set, the first he ever owned, and it had been stored away until now.

“I thought, ‘Hey, we can use that,’” Frey recalled. “Fans will absolutely love it.”

The Third Encore is aptly named, as it follows what would be two encores by the Eagles during their residency at Sphere. The attraction occupies the second floor of The Venetian’s Waterfall Atrium, in the same space previously used for fan experiences featuring U2 and Dead & Company.

The venue is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays through Sundays during show weeks.

At no cost, guests can explore a memorabilia display featuring historic items typically found in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, including music equipment, concert posters, and a rare behind-the-scenes video titled “Eagles Come Home.”

As a member of the Eagles family, Frey was a natural fit to spearhead the project.

“I don’t think it was ever planned. It was more like, ‘What about this? What if we do that?’ We were brainstorming ideas and then just ran with it,” she explained.

In addition to the Felicity drum set, Frey discovered several old mementos and photos she didn’t know existed.

“There were some really special ones, like walking off stage at the old Wembley Stadium,” Frey said. “It was at the original Wembley Stadium, which no longer exists.” The performance took place during the 1975 Mid-Summer Music festival, which also featured the Beach Boys and a pre-Eagles Joe Walsh.

The merchandise area spans 2,600 square feet, featuring exclusive designs available only at Third Encore.

The attraction will also showcase the Troubadour VIP Lounge, a recreation of the iconic Troubadour in West Hollywood, serving as the hub of the experience.

The lounge captures the aesthetics and architectural details reminiscent of the band’s early days, creating a cool hangout atmosphere.

Access to this element of the experience comes at a price. Those who sign up for a Vibee VIP package will have the “exclusive opportunity,” as detailed in the news release, to view rare Eagles memorabilia and order themed drinks inspired by the band (more details available at eagles.vibee.com).

“We have many of the old T-shirts and satin jackets from years ago,” Frey noted. “People look at them and say, ‘Wow, this is amazing. I want to wear that today.’ It’s like the band; they don’t make these anymore.”
