Grammy-nominated DJ and producer Steve Aoki has teamed up with award-winning Drum & Bass duo Koven for their first-ever collaboration, “Nervous System,” released on Monstercat. The track made its live debut at Tomorrowland, where Koven joined Aoki on stage, sending the crowd into a frenzy. This unexpected collaboration marks a significant moment in the dance music world, blending two influential genres and showcasing Drum & Bass to a broader audience.
With Drum & Bass gaining popularity in North America, Aoki and Koven are perfectly positioned to bridge the gap between mainstream EDM and this rising genre. “Nervous System” features a powerful bassline and captivating lyrics, solidifying Drum & Bass as a driving force in the dance music scene. The track is expected to leave a lasting impact on listeners and further elevate the genre.
Steve Aoki’s career is synonymous with innovation and boundary-pushing in the world of electronic dance music. Known for his high-energy performances and collaborations with top artists like Ne-Yo, Linkin Park, BTS, and Lil Uzi Vert, Aoki continues to push the limits of what dance music can achieve. His relentless touring schedule, which includes over 200 shows a year and appearances at major festivals like Tomorrowland, Lollapalooza, and EDC Las Vegas, has made him a global icon. Aoki’s impact extends beyond music, as he has helped launch the careers of artists like The Chainsmokers, Bloc Party, and The Bloody Beetroots. His dedication to his craft has earned him numerous accolades, including a Grammy nomination for his documentary “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead,” as well as several Platinum and Gold singles.
Koven has also risen to prominence as a major force in the Drum & Bass scene, thanks to their cinematic sound and powerful vocals. In 2020, they won Best Vocalist at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards and received a nomination for their debut album “Butterfly Effect,” which features million-streamed hits like “Gold” and “All For Nothing.” Their music has reached global audiences through performances at festivals such as Parookaville and EDC Las Vegas, along with headline tours and partnerships with brands like Rocket League and Mobil 1. Koven has also collaborated with prominent artists in the genre, including A.M.C, Delta Heavy, and ShockOne, further expanding the global reach of Drum & Bass beyond the UK.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Steve Aoki shared, “Working with Koven on ‘Nervous System’ was an incredible experience. I’ve admired their work for a while, so when the opportunity arose, it was an easy decision. They brought such unique energy to the track, and I think we’ve created something special that both our fan bases will love. This track blends the best of both our worlds.”
Koven added, “Collaborating with Steve had been a goal for years. We finally met him at Tomorrowland 2023, after already remixing one of his tracks. When he mentioned he’d love to work with us again, we were ecstatic. We took the opportunity to send him some ideas, and the rest is history. We’re extremely proud of the final result, and working with Steve was a wonderful experience!”
