The Blue Man Group Brings Their Explosive Show to Scotland

by Madonna

The artistic director of the renowned Blue Man Group hinted that the performers might consider adding a white saltire cross to their makeup for their show in Edinburgh tomorrow. Matt Ramsay, a 24-year veteran of the company, expressed excitement about bringing The Bluevolution Tour to the capital, noting that their signature blue hue closely resembles the colors of the Scottish flag.

Since their inception in the late 1980s, the performance art troupe—known for their bald caps and thick blue grease paint—has captivated audiences worldwide with their unique blend of slapstick comedy, miming, paint drumming, and outrageous stunts involving marshmallows and endless toilet paper.

Former Blue Man Matt, who joined in 2000, stated, “The Blue Men are thrilled to perform in Scotland, knowing that the Scottish audiences will be enthusiastic and eager to engage. The show is highly interactive, and with plenty of crowd participation, I’m confident that Edinburgh will be ready for it.”

He added, “Who knows? We might even have the audience paint a white saltire cross on their blue faces as a tribute. You can always expect surprises at a Blue Man show.”

As one of the world’s most successful stage acts, this marks their first UK tour in seven years. Since 1991, they have entertained over 50 million people globally and have appeared on major TV shows, including The Royal Variety Performance, Arrested Development, and The Tonight Show.

Matt reflected on his time with the group, saying, “After 24 years, I’m still trying to understand what connects these bizarre blue characters with audiences worldwide. It’s something special. This show is unlike any other—it’s more than just a musical or stunt performance; it feels magical.”

He continued, “The Blue Men don’t speak, which eliminates language barriers and ensures that everyone, regardless of their country or language, can enjoy the experience.”

“When audiences attend the shows, they bond with the performers and feel part of the action. It’s a surreal and indescribable experience. The cast connects with people on a personal level through drums, stunts, and surprises. It’s more than just a performance; it’s an experience, and I know Scotland will be amazed.”

In addition to the usual three Blue Men, audiences will be introduced to a new female character, Rockstar, a multi-instrumentalist exclusive to the world tour.
