Jack Antonoff Unveils Signature Guitar: A Unique Fusion of Gretsch and Fender Jazzmaster

by Madonna

Gretsch has partnered with Jack Antonoff to introduce his first signature guitar, the Limited Edition Gretsch Princess Antonoff Electromatic CVT. This instrument draws inspiration from two of Antonoff’s favorite guitars: the Gretsch Princess and the Fender Jazzmaster, creating a harmonious blend of classic appeal and modern adaptability.

The guitar boasts a solid alder body and a bolt-on “C” shaped maple neck with a 25.5” scale length. Its 7.25”-radius bound rosewood fingerboard features 22 medium jumbo frets adorned with pearloid Neo-Classical Thumbnail inlays.

Equipped with custom-wound FideliSonic single-coil pickups, the guitar offers a unique control layout that includes a master volume, master tone dial, a rhythm/lead switch, thumbwheel controls for neck pickup volume and tone, and a three-position pickup selector switch. Additionally, a kill switch has been incorporated for creative experimentation.

“I realized that there was something I was trying to create that didn’t exist,” Antonoff explains about his Princess-Jazzmaster hybrid. “There’s one guitar in my mind that blends these two, and as soon as we made the prototype, I thought, ‘This needs to exist. Other people need to play this guitar.’”

“This guitar embodies everything I love about both,” he adds. “It feels like a Princess—I can move around the stage freely. There’s nothing chunky about it. From an electronic standpoint, it incorporates all my favorite aspects of a Jazzmaster.”

“When I play a Jazzmaster, I feel it demands a certain respect. This guitar gives me the best of both worlds.”

To celebrate the launch, Gretsch has released a 12-minute short film featuring Antonoff’s band, Bleachers, in a “Signature Session,” where they performed “How Dare You Want More” and “Modern Girl.”
