A unique production titled The Farmonic Orchestra is poised to captivate audiences in the West End, featuring musicians who will play instruments crafted from vegetables typically found in Cornish pasties.
The London Vegetable Orchestra has partnered with pasty manufacturer Ginsters for a special one-off performance at the Other Palace Theatre on November 3rd.
This ensemble, comprising four classically trained musicians known for creating music with instruments made entirely from vegetables, will construct their instruments from swedes and potatoes for an engaging 60-minute lunchtime show.
The vegetable instruments are meticulously carved just before the performance, resulting in genuine musical instruments complete with mouthpieces and holes to manipulate their sound.
Surprisingly akin to their brass and wooden counterparts, these instruments will entertain the audience with a selection of West End anthems, classical pieces, and popular hits. Audience members will also have the opportunity to try playing a vegetable instrument themselves.
Patrick Johns, a member of the London Vegetable Orchestra, expressed his enthusiasm: “Bringing our vegetable instruments to the iconic West End is a dream come true. It’s not every day you hear a swede or potato play a melody, and we’re thrilled to share this unforgettable experience with the audience.”
The show will also feature Merryn, the spirited farmer from Ginsters’ latest TV advertisement, alongside a vocal performance by the sea shanty musicians, The Monkey Fists.
Sarah Babb from Ginsters commented, “We put a lot of effort into making our Cornish Pasties and sourcing the best British produce, so we believe they deserve their time in the spotlight to be appreciated like the stars that they are. Merryn goes above and beyond to grow only the best vegetables for us, so it’s no surprise her veg also has what it takes to dazzle under the West End lights. We’re excited to celebrate the effort that goes into creating high-quality food and hope that everyone who attends enjoys the show, along with a taste of our famous Cornish Pasties.”
Tickets are available online at the Other Palace Theatre, with all proceeds going to The Trussell Trust to help combat food poverty across the UK.
Following the matinee performance, all vegetables used will be donated.
