A remarkable collection of music memorabilia, including jackets worn by Michael Jackson and guitars played by Noel Gallagher, will be auctioned next month, with estimates suggesting a total raise of around £2 million ($2.61 million).
Propstore, an auctioneer specializing in entertainment memorabilia, will offer more than 350 items linked to music icons during its sale on November 15. This auction is part of a four-day event that will also feature film and television props and costumes.
Among the standout items in the music category is a master tape of unreleased demo recordings by Jimi Hendrix, housed in a box with the musician’s handwritten titles. Also up for bid are framed lyrics to Jackson’s “Beat It,” penned by the King of Pop himself, along with several of his iconic jackets. Notably, a black and gold military-style jacket is estimated to fetch between £200,000 and £400,000 ($261,000 – $522,000). Additionally, his red “Thriller” tour rehearsal jacket, adorned with multiple famous signatures, will be available for auction.
“It has been not only signed by Michael, but on the inside, on the back lining, it’s signed by John Landis, who directed the ‘Thriller’ video, and his wife, Deborah Landis, who designed the jacket for Michael to wear,” explained Propstore’s music specialist, Mark Hochman, to Reuters. “At the end of the day, it’s a ‘Thriller’ jacket that Michael’s worn.”
In addition, the auction will feature 15 guitars previously owned and played by Noel Gallagher, marking what Propstore claims is the largest collection of Oasis guitars ever to be offered at auction. This includes Gallagher’s first guitar from his time with the band, a cream Hohner JT60, estimated to sell for between £25,000 and £50,000.
“Oasis guitars do come up for auction, primarily Noel’s guitars, and they’re hugely sought after by collectors,” Hochman noted. “The (Oasis) reunion has taken that interest to a different level.”
