Roland has announced that its V-Drums Quiet Design VQD106 and Music Creation Keyboard GO:KEYS 5 / GO:KEYS 3 have been honored with a GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2024. This award, managed by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion, has served as Japan’s comprehensive design evaluation and recognition system since 1957.
The V-Drums Quiet Design VQD106 represents a groundbreaking electronic drum kit designed specifically for noise reduction, achieving exceptional quietness while maintaining playability and expressiveness. It features newly engineered pads and stands that incorporate mesh heads, low-hardness rubber, multi-layered cushions, and hemispherical rubber feet, resulting in a 75% reduction in impact and vibration noise compared to existing Roland V-Drums electronic drums (measured under Roland’s specific conditions). This innovative design allows drummers in apartment buildings to play without worrying about disturbing their neighbors or those living on the floors below.
According to the jury members, “The V-Drums Quiet Design is truly deserving of the award due to its innovative approach to solving a significant problem for drummers: noise reduction. What sets these electronic drums apart is their ability to maintain the playability and feel of traditional acoustic drums while drastically reducing noise levels. This is achieved with a mesh head, low-hardness rubber, and a hollow hemispherical design that minimizes impact noise and floor vibrations. These features enable drummers to practice and play in previously challenging environments, such as apartments or during late hours, without disturbing neighbors or family members. This not only addresses noise reduction but also supports the broader mission of making music more accessible to everyone, regardless of their living situation. The combination of innovative materials, thoughtful design, and a focus on user experience makes this product fully deserving of this recognition.”
The GO:KEYS 5 and GO:KEYS 3 keyboards are designed for users of all skill levels, enabling them to enjoy authentic performances and explore their creativity in music-making. Equipped with Roland’s high-quality sounds and automatic accompaniment functions, both GO:KEYS models can be easily operated with just one finger. They also allow users to create and perform songs in conjunction with PCs and smartphones, and they offer the option to add tones and accompaniment styles from Roland Cloud.
