Nandi Bushell Honors Taylor Hawkins by Performing Foo Fighters Hit with His Drumsticks

by Madonna

Nandi Bushell celebrated “the best night of [her] entire life” in 2021 when she performed “Everlong” with the Foo Fighters at just 11 years old. During that memorable event, the late Taylor Hawkins gifted her a pair of drumsticks. Tragically, in 2022, Bushell used those same sticks to play “Learn to Fly” at a tribute concert at Wembley Stadium for Hawkins, who passed away in March of that year.

Now, at 14 years old, the talented drummer has collaborated with Drumeo to once again showcase her skills by playing the drum part of “Learn to Fly” using those special sticks. “Taylor’s amazing, he’s the nicest person,” Bushell expressed in a video recorded by Drumeo. “He gave me these sticks, which are the sticks I performed with at Wembley.”

Reflecting on her tribute performance, she said, “It was a bittersweet moment because of course it’s amazing to play Wembley Stadium, but it was why I was playing there.”

Bushell also shared her admiration for Hawkins, saying, “Taylor has a lot of energy. He’s a powerhouse on the drums, a beast. His hits are always really hard, and he’s just incredible on the drum kit.”

In the cover performance, Drumeo isolated the recorded percussion track, allowing Bushell’s drumming to blend seamlessly with the rest of the music.
