STOMP offers a one-of-a-kind blend of percussion, movement, and visual comedy, creating a modern style of rhythmic expression. The performers utilize everyday items—both household and industrial—as their musical instruments instead of traditional drums.
Co-founder and director Luke Cresswell emphasizes the group’s ability to “make a rhythm out of anything we can get our hands on that makes a sound.”
The performance is a sonic journey that celebrates the ordinary while showcasing a comic interplay of characters who communicate through dance and rhythm without words. Synchronized stiff-bristle brooms transform into a sweeping orchestra, while eight Zippo lighters create a fiery fugue. The thumping of wooden poles adds to the rhythmic explosion. STOMP eschews conventional percussion instruments, opting instead for dustbins, suitcases, radiator hoses, boots, and hubcaps, resulting in a captivating and distinctive act that is often imitated but never duplicated.
For decades, STOMP has toured across North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia, and has enjoyed extended productions in cities like Las Vegas, Boston, and San Francisco.
